Tribute to the musician-composer
Giovanni Cognoli
(1968 – 2020)
Italy – Luxembourg
6 albums of solo instrumental music,
on bass and Chapman Stick, with jazz chords.
« Have always been fascinated by the idea of “being an instrument”, like a brush dipped in color that is used by a painter moved by that natural energy that creates shapes, cosmic geometric balances, always in harmony with the immortality of the universe. »
G.C.
He often said that he should start recording his music, but was always drawn to new compositions instead. This site compiles the creative output from the last ten years of his life, featuring recordings from his solo concerts on bass and Chapman Stick.
It is also a multidisciplinary project that combines photo, video, and text, bringing together various artists for certain pieces.

‘Aman Iman‘ (Water is life), a Tuareg proverb that I gladly borrow for the abundance of this precious resource in these volcanic lands.
Over the past few decades, Sólheimajökull glacier has retreated by more than a kilometer, or about 50 meters per year, forming a lake.
Piece composed and performed by Giovanni Cognoli, solo bass. Discovered on one of his MiniDic “Ideas” in April 2022.

through southern Iceland!
Connessioni Vulcaniche, on « Lien Cosmique » (Cosmic Link), from the album « Regarde avec mes Yeux »,
(Through My Eyes), performed on bass by Giovanni and Guillermo Cides on the Chapman Stick who also provided the arrangements.
Etna was one of the first places I visited in 2021, because it was one of Giovanni’s dreams.
I was lucky enough to meet the Sicilian photographer Fabio Mangione there in 2022,
who immediately agreed to contribute to this project with his superb photos.

« If you reach the top of the mountain, keep climbing. » Tibetan proverb
(The Tibet, “the Roof of the World »)
The Khangai region in Mongolia, a landscape of steppes, plains, and mountains, sits at an average elevation of 2,414 meters, while the Orkhon Valley ranges between 1,350 and 2,300 meters. Mount Etna in Sicily, crowned with its summit craters, rises above 3,000 meters. In the Bolivian Andes, the breathtaking Salar de Uyuni lies at 3,663 meters, Laguna Verde is located at around 4,300 meters, and Laguna Blanca is at 4,340 meters. From these lagoons, you can admire a giant, the Licancabur volcano, that rises to 5,920 meters. Finally, the Salvador Dalí Desert, seemingly painted, reaches an elevation of 4,750 meters.
